behavior & positive versus negative attention
Behavior IssuesChildren need and want attention....What does your child do to get it?
Is your child misbehaving for attention or because of misunderstanding expectations. Some children learn easily when given a negative consequence for inappropriate behavior. Other children's needs can be much more complex and understanding this concept will take much more time to learn.
What do you do and say to give your child attention? Are you having a difficult time getting your child to behave appropriately? Is dealing with behavior taking away from the positive attention you could be giving your child?
What techniques do you use to get compliance? Do you feel you are using the same methods that your parents used when you were a child? Have you been to parenting classes that have influenced your manner of parenting skills? Do you find you are flying by the seat of your pants most of the time?
Let's look at where you are having the most frustration.
Where are you having the most difficult time dealing with behavior issues?
Getting ready to leave the house, going to bed, starting/doing homework, meal time?
There are many strategies to use that could be helpful. What one will work for you and your family?
